Why an End of Year Ritual is Important!

Grab your colorful paper, glittery pen, matches, favorite beverage and get ready to start that end of year ritual you’ve been doing for so many years. Or maybe this will be a first for you! Whichever, let’s take a look at why an end of year ritual is important.

Rituals are basically a symbolic act.

Many people have a morning ritual from something as simple as having a cup of coffee to more involved ones which might include journaling, meditating, exercising, walking your dog.

A wedding ceremony is a ritual.

Baptisms are rituals.

But rituals are more than just going through the motions.

  • They may help to shift your mindset.
  • They honor and support the changes we experience throughout our life.
  • They may help get us through difficult situations.
  • And allow us to experience joy and abundance.

The end of the year is probably the busiest time for most people. But making the time for yourself to go inward and reflect on the past 12 months is so important to our overall well-being. It’s a time to honor what the year has brought you and then prepare for another year.

Here are some ideas to help you create a year end ritual or add to what you already do:

LET IT GO

When we let go of something that no longer serves us, it creates space for something that serves us better.

One way to do this is to write down anything you want to release: name a person or persons, mindset, habit, you get the idea. Take the list outside, light it and let it burn to ashes.

By releasing it symbolically, it’s telling your brain that the task is completed.

You will be amazed at how great this feels. The first time I did this, I made a second list and burned that one. It’s so liberating.

CLEARING OUT

Right along with letting it go, is clearing out things in your home or work that you don’t use. Clutter makes the air stagnant and stale.

Plus by clearing out you make room for something new.

Start off the new year surrounding yourself with fresh, open space.

LESSONS LEARNED

We are all faced with challenges during the year. Think how boring our life would be without them! But with each challenge, there is a lesson to be learned. Write down the challenges you faced this past year, how you handled it and what you learned from it.

BRAG AND CELEBRATE

Instead of focusing on what didn’t go your way or what you didn’t accomplish, write down what you did accomplish this past year. Maybe you wanted to lose 20 pounds but lost 10. Bet your jeans fit better!

And celebrate each accomplishment. Be proud of what you did, no matter how incidental it may seem, you did it and should be proud of yourself.

BE GRATEFUL

Gratitude is everything. No matter what challenges you faced or what you feel you didn’t accomplish there is always something to be grateful for. Acknowledge it whatever way works for you.

And on the “woo woo” side….

CHOOSE A WORD FOR THE YEAR

You can write it out, put it on a vision board or someplace where you see it, put it on your phone. But use it for inspiration and motivation. Some ideas are: believe, abundance, prosperity, good health, action, grateful.

ORACLE CARD

Oracle cards provide you with guidance from angels, spirit guides, animals, masters. Although you still have to do the work, they can help get you on the right path.

Check out the different types of cards and see which one resonates with you. Plus they come with a book which helps to explain what each card is telling you.

And you can use them whenever you feel the need for inspiration or guidance from another source.

SPECIAL CRYSTAL

As far as I’m concerned, you can never have too many crystals. But choosing one specific crystal to carry with you (like your word for the year) may help you throughout the year.

Crystals carry energy and depending on what you are focusing on they can help send that energy to you.

And it doesn’t have to be a large crystal, there are tumble stones, bracelets, necklaces.

For example: clear quartz is good for clarity, rose quarts may help attract love, amethyst helps with intuition, black tourmaline is good for releasing and letting go.

And you can always start something that resonates with you to be your special year end ritual!

I’d love to hear if you have a special year end ritual or if you are going to start one.

Here’s to a healthy and prosperous 2020!!

This is lovely & very helpful🌈🙏☯️☮ this might sound a bit pragmatic but my best friend just deleted all her voicemails from 2019 and there were A LOT but she said she did it for her phone but also for her mindset♥️ letting go of the past to be present for the present🙏🦋🌠

    • So glad you found it helpful. Your friend is totally right about letting go. It also makes way for new to come into your life.
