How To Simplify Your Life To Help You Live Longer

What’s one of the biggest killers of people of all ages? It’s stress. And most of the time, it’s been brought on by the complexity we make in our lives. But if we step back and simplify our life, it will help us to live longer.

It’s true our world is more complex than ever:

  • Access to stressful news 24/7 from many different devices
  • Trying to make enough money to pay the bills
  • Not only caring for ourselves but also grown children and our parents
  • Worrying about health issues that may never develop

Yes, maybe some of these things in your life can’t be avoided. But some definitely can and here are some ideas to help you simplify your life:

  1. Figure out WHAT IS REALLY IMPORTANT in your life and learn to say “No” to what isn’t.

You’d be surprised but your world won’t come crashing down. It’s pretty empowering to be able to do this. And a great self-confidence booster!             

  1. Eliminate ENERGY VAMPIRES.

What’s an energy vampire? Ever just feel so tired and drained after being around someone? Or know someone who is demanding and controlling? That’s an energy vampire and it’s someone you don’t need in your life. However, this could be a family member or co-worker so you just can’t eliminate them from your life but you can limit your exposure to them.

You can also learn to protect yourself by sending them positive energy and love. And surrounding yourself with positive energy before having to deal with them.

  1. GET RID OF STUFF aka de-clutter.

How many things do you have that you are keeping just because? And you never use them?

Or maybe you are storing your kids’ things or your parents?

Now you are complicating your life by having to find room to store them, or worse pay for a storage unit, for things no one is using and maybe doesn’t even care about.

I just recently donated a Snow Village that my mom insisted my daughter needed to collect (even though my daughter never was interested in that kind of thing) and I ended up storing for her. Now, hopefully, it will be in a home where it is appreciated!

Plus clutter stops the flow of energy through your home creating an unhealthy environment.

You know how it feels when you are outside and just breathing in that fresh air? Well, that’s how it should feel in your home.  Get rid of stuff and let that energy flow.

  1. UNHOOK FROM SOCIAL MEDIA AND ELECTRONICS or at least cut back on the amount of time you spend on them each day. 

We have become so addicted to checking things on our computers and TV that it is affecting our health. And if it’s really that important, we’ll find out about it eventually.

  1. DON’T SWEAT THE SMALL THINGS.

Will you starve if you don’t cook a different meal every night? That’s what left-overs are for.

Or you don’t finish reading a book on time for your book club? Reading should be for pleasure and not pressure.

Remembering to “stop and smell the roses” is such good advice. We get so caught up in life that we forget to live it. And then, before we know it, we are too unhealthy to enjoy our life.

  1. Set aside time each day to just SIT QUIETLY and appreciate at the beauty around you.

There’s a commercial where a couple is so proud of themselves that they are camping yet they can’t fall asleep without the stressful city noises. Don’t be that couple – learn to simplify your life so you can live longer.

Instructions
  1. Combine the fruit in a mixing bowl.
  2. Arrange the mixture into popsicle molds or small paper cups.
  3. Pour juice over the mold to cover the fruit.
  4. Insert popsicle sticks and freeze until sold – about 6 hours.
  5. Unmold and enjoy!!!

  3. I tend to feel like I’m drowning when there is too much stuff around and when the calendar is full so I’ve been working on reducing that stress in my life. Still need to reduce the stress from the nightly news and that’s been harder. Going to share this in a roundup post on 9-9-17.
