Living in gratitude is not just for the Holidays

canstockphoto21901989This is the time of year when many people express their gratitude more. And then the rest of the 10 months they forget about it. Kind of like the people who only go to church on Christmas and Easter.

Charities hold benefits at this time because they know people are more giving.

How many times have you received a Holiday gift from someone you hardly know?

Or you got caught up in “the spirit” and bought a gift for someone you hardly know?

But it’s really not hard to show gratitude all the time. In fact, it can even lead to better health.

Research shows that people who practice grateful habits regularly have less stress, sleep better, are healthier, have increased self-worth and are happier with their lives and relationships. It can even help to slow down the aging process! And all it takes is a little bit of your time each day.

Before you even get out of bed in the morning, say a word or two of gratitude that you are alive.

Start a Gratitude Journal and write down 3-5 things every day that you are thankful for.

When paying your bills, thank the company who allowed you to use their service or lent you the money.

Appreciate all Mother Nature offers us. Spend a few minutes outside just breathing in her beauty.

Clean your house and closets and donate items you don’t need anymore to a charity.

Volunteer on a regular basis.

Pay for a meal or coffee for someone you don’t know.

Smile! It’s contagious!

“Everyday, think as you wake up, today I am fortunate to be alive, I have a precious human life, I am not going to waste it. I am going to use all my energies to develop myself, to expand my heart out to others; to achieve enlightenment for the benefit of all beings. I am going to have kind thoughts towards others, I am not going to get angry or think badly about others. I am going to benefit others as much as I can.” – Dalai Lama
